Diet For Gastric Bypass After Surgery



For people that go through gastric bypass surgery, they must go on a specialized diet.  This diet for gastric bypass is something that changes throughout their lifetime although there are some similarities that will always stay the same.  Whenever you first have the gastric bypass surgery, you will have certain things that you need to do.  These would include a progressive eating pattern that will eventually go into a lifestyle change that you will need to maintain an order to realize a healthy future.  Using the diet for gastric bypass, along with psychiatric help so that you can recognize why you had an eating disorder will ensure that your life is healthy and trim.

The beginning phases of the diet for gastric bypass are progressive in nature.  You will begin drinking things that are liquid such as water, juice, and strained soup.  After your stomach has healed to a certain extent, you will then move onto puréed foods and eventually to solid foods.  The reason that this is a progressive diet is because your stomach has just gone through a major surgery and it will take time to heal.  If you return to eating solid food too quickly, you will have adverse side effects and could even damage some of the good that was done by the surgery.

Once you are off the initial phases of the diet for gastric bypass, you will have to make some dietary changes that will last for the rest of your life.  Because many things will affect you differently now that your stomach has been altered, you're going to need to introduce new foods into your diet one at a time.  If you happen to have an adverse effect because of one of these foods, you will know never to eat that food again.  The best thing that you can do is to chew new foods very well and to take your time eating so that you can recognize any adverse effects early enough to stop eating that food.

It is also important that you eat several small meals throughout the day.  Since you have altered the size of your stomach, you will be unable to eat as much food without making yourself sick.  For that reason, you can eat smaller meals that are healthy in nature in order to ensure that your body is getting all of the proper nutrients.  You might also find that eating small meals throughout the day in this manner will keep you satisfied more than eating the three square meals that most people eat.

One more thing that is important to remember is that you should not drink whenever you are eating your meals.  Doing so can cause some severe side effects that would be very uncomfortable.  It is necessary for you to remain hydrated, however, and you can do so by drinking six to eight glasses of liquid throughout the day in between meals.  Just remember that these changes are a lifestyle change that will keep you healthy into the future.  Pay attention to the diet for gastric bypass and you can be successful with your weight loss.
